    There are many professional day traders out there who focus all their efforts on trading a particular instrument, whether it’s a currency pair or a stock market index. I personally have attempted to trade both in the past so I can speak from experience when I say that in general it is much easier to trade forex.

    The main reason why is because when you trade one of the major currency pairs you can usually concentrate purely on technical analysis. In other words when you trade the intraday charts you can trade the forex pairs around pivot points and areas of support and resistance because the price movements can be quite predictable. However when you trade stock indices such as the FTSE 100 or the Dow Jones, for instance, the price movements are not always so predictable.

    That’s obviously because these indices are made up of various different stocks and they don’t always rise and fall in tandem with each other. Yes you may get some days when all the constituents trade higher or lower, but most of the time certain sectors will be strong, whilst others may be flat or trading lower. Plus there are often occasions when individual stocks release some news concerning their company and as a result the share price moves independently of the wider market.

    As a result of all this, you don’t always get as many predictable bounces off key support and resistance levels, for example, as you do when you trade the major forex pairs. Therefore they are much harder to trade with any confidence because you can never be sure of how the price will react around these key levels.

    Another point worth making is that when you trade forex you can pretty much guarantee that you will have a large trading range for many of the most popular currency pairs, such as the GBP/USD, EUR/USD and GBP/JPY pairs, for any given trading day. The same cannot be said for the various stock market indices, however, because there are some days when the FTSE 100, and even the Dow Jones, will trade within a very narrow trading range.

    So the point I want to get across is that on the whole it’s a lot easier to day trade the forex markets than the stock market indices. They respond very well to technical analysis, whether it’s fibonacci levels, pivot points, or simply trend lines and basic levels of support and resistance, whereas the same cannot always be said about the indices because of how they are derived.

As such, they are vulnerable to poor financial management – ‘plugged in’ 24/7 and warmly accepting of marketing approaches, these young consumers are sitting ducks for exploitation.

    Recent studies into this group, such as that published by social demographer, Mark McCrindle, have been accompanied by efforts throughout the community to address this emerging issue and protect young consumers. Financial institutions throughout Australia have taken up the baton to promote financial literacy in line with Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives (CSR) and independent organisations have begun to take more targeted steps toward education in financial management.

    US financial expert Loral Langemeier, identifies a lack of positive information on financial matters as applicable to young consumers and has collaborated with Australian organisation, Money Toolkits, to develop a ‘how to’ text for parents to use as a blueprint in developing financial literacy in children.

    “This generation is exposed to more marketing messages, much earlier than previous generations,” claims Nicole Clemow of Money Toolkits. “It is so important to reach them with positive messages that show not only can you manage money responsibly but you can build capital and personal wealth and create a comfortable lifestyle for yourself.”

    In the book, Loral Langemeier – a respected financial expert worldwide, has outlined the lack of capacity for teachers to handle this material in schools:
    “Very few are likely to be able to model and teach how to become an entrepreneur and/or how to make money work for you through investing in assets that generate income. Most of them never learnt it themselves and don’t have it on their radar as being important. They are more likely to teach what they model themselves -study hard, go to college (university) and get a secure, well paid job.”

    Kimco Realty Corp. (Kimco) announced the launch of another small business through the Kimco Entrepreneurs Year Start (KEYS) program – Carlsbad’s Build-It-Workshops held its grand opening on Friday.

    KEYS is a small business incubator program developed by Kimko.

    As of Dec. 31, 2012, Kimco owned interests in 896 shopping centers comprising 131 million square feet of leasable space across 44 states, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, and South America. KEYS launched in California, where Kimco owns over 110 shopping centers consisting of over 3,200 stores and 19.3 million square feet of leasable space.

    The company says that it is actively seeking startup entrepreneurs and first-time business owners to apply to the program, which currently has over a hundred small shops (2,500 square feet and under) available for KEYS participants, including many pre-built restaurant spaces.

    KEYS will place qualified applicants into Kimco shopping centers with one year of free rent and additional benefits such as affordable property charges to minimize initial overhead; access to personal Kimco retail business counselors; a flexible four-year lease option after the first year; as well as access to shop space in established retail centers. In addition, Kimco says that it will provide operational and financial support through the critical startup incubation years to better ensure the success of these first-time business owners.

    Kimco has developed relationships with established educational organizations such as SCORE, the California Small Business Development Center, Kauffman FastTrac, and others that offer business resources and networking support.

    The KEYS program seeks entrepreneurs who plan to open their first store, restaurant, or other concept (but not franchise companies), who have adequate funding for the venture, a written Business Plan with detailed business goals and who have the ability to articulate their plan for success in an interview. A certificate, endorsement, or letter of completion verifying entrepreneurial classes completed from an SBA sponsored business association, college, university or appropriate training organization is encouraged, but not required.
